Frequently Asked Questions

Do you do specific scenes from a provided photograph?
I do sometimes, but my style is loose and interpretive so it will not be a direct representation of the photo. I like to capture the feeling of the space and give it an atmosphere.What sizes do you offer?
I generally paint on sizes from 2x2 inches up to 8x8 inches. But if you have a specific size you’d like get in touch and we can chat. Occasionally I offer pieces on shapes other than squares.What payment methods do you accept?

I want my paintings to be accessible, I offer payment plans via AfterPay/ClearPay and Klarna.How do you ship?

Processing times are separate from the shipping times you see at checkout.All orders (except commissions) are processed within 3 to 7 business days after receiving your order confirmation email. You will receive another notification when your order has shipped.International Shipping: import fees
Your order may be subject to import duties and taxes incurred once a shipment reaches your destination country. Emma Stubbs is not responsible for these charges if they are applied and are your responsibility as the customer.Wrong address or returned
Emma Stubbs is not responsible if the address is wrong or missing information or if there wasn't anyone at home and the order is returned. In this case, the customer should pay for the shipping to get it shipped again.How do I check the status of my order?
When your order has shipped, you will receive an email notification which includes a tracking number you can use to check its status. Please allow 48 hours for the tracking information to become available.
There's a 14-day return policy, which means you have 14 days after receiving your item to request a return (except for commissioned paintings).Damages and issues
All paintings will have insurance to protect the paintings. Please inspect your order upon reception. When you get your package and you're asked for a signature, type if the package is damaged: just type on the signature field "the package is damaged". If you sign the reception of a damaged package with a regular signature, they consider it to be the customer's fault. After adding the note to the signature, contact me immediately so we can evaluate the issue, claim the insurance policy and make it right.

Hi, I'm Emma

I’m Emma Stubbs, an artist based in the North East of Scotland - much of my artwork draws on the big skies, rugged landscape and coast of this area.
I have been painting for over 25 years with the occasional pause for travel, to raise kids and tackle Parkinson's. I live with my two teenagers, partner and a rather neurotic border collie.In my artistic journey, landscapes and light are my endless inspirations. I convey their magic through oil paintings, bridging past and present. A reflection of our shared human experience, our bond with the land, and our ancestral memories. I aim to remind us of life's fleeting nature and the value of each moment.

PARKINSON'S

I love to paint on a huge scale but as someone with Parkinson’s Disease, I am unable to cope with the physicality of such projects. Now I focus on capturing wild nature on a smaller scale - which is probably much easier to hang in your average house!

Thursday Around Dinner Time…
Once a week, I ponder something to do with living with Parkinson’s and the impact of chronic illness. Be prepared for the frequent sweary bits.

Process

I aim to create 2-3 new pieces each week - sign up for updates when new pieces are fresh off the easel!

I use a mix of oil paint brands but this is currently my main palette. I am a sucker for unique and odd handmade paints as well!

UNUSUAL OR UNIQUE

SURFACE

I make my painting boards using MDF, gesso and lots of sanding. I like to paint on a smooth surface with a very subtle tooth.

COMMISSIONS

Here's how I accept commissions:☁︎ I work on oil paints on board, all my works come framed with a choice of black, white and wood-effect finish.☁︎ I have a 50:50 payment structure, requiring you to pay a 50% deposit and the remainder when the artwork is completed.☁︎ The deposit is non-refundable, but if you are not satisfied and want to refuse the painting I will accept the deposit as payment towards any other available artwork.☁︎ The sizes of the works are as follows:
4x4 inch (6x6 framed)
6x6 inch (8x8 framed)
10x10 inch (12x12 framed)
On rare occasions, I will consider a different size.☁︎ Shipping to the UK is included.☁︎ Two - four weeks on average for the whole process.☁︎ If you need something in a hurry it might be possible to speed things up, depending on my availability.

☁︎ Once we have had an initial chat about your requirements I will create two digital images for you to evaluate and make any suggested changes before proceeding with the commission.
